History of the Program

Key Points

The 1:1/BYOD program started as a multi-year endeavor.

The NHV Technology staff started researching about a 1:1 program at NHV in 2011-2012.

In 2012-2013 a small exploratory pilot was conducted.

In 2013-2014 the pilot expanded to all freshmen (controlled roll out).

In 2014-2015 three grades were involved in the program.

In 2015-2016 all grades were part of the program for the first time.

The 1:1 program at North Hunterdon-Voorhees was launched as a multi-year endeavor that started in 2011-2012 as the Strategic Plan for the District identified 1:1 as one of the major activities projected in relation to educational excellence.

The 2011-2012 school year was a research year where we started to gather information about the experiences of other school districts that have already implemented 1:1 programs. An overall picture of what challenges we were going to face in terms of infrastructure and adoption started to take place.

The 2012-2013 school year was our initial pilot year. We decided to conduct a small scale exploratory 1:1 pilot that would give first hand information on the implementation of a 1:1 program. During this exploratory pilot, we tested several devices and different approaches to instruction and class management in a 1:1 environment. This small pilot helped us to identify first hand the benefits of a 1:1 program as well as find out obstacles that we needed to resolve if we were to move forward.

The 2013-2014 year marked a major step in our process to become a 1:1 school. In 2013-2014, we  expanded the pilot we conducted in 2012-2013 into a controlled roll-out/pilot expansion that allowed us to gather additional feedback across curriculum and identify obstacles that could come with a large scale deployment and therefore were not identified during the initial pilot in 2012-2013.

During 2014-2015 we expanded the program to three of the four high school grades. And beginning the 2015-2016 all four grades were equipped with Chromebok devices.
